The following case studies highlight how opportunities to conduct ship based fieldwork has helped to advance the careers of marine scientists. These case studies describe how chance encounters or academic networks led to these opportunities, FindAScienceBerth aims to allow those without such connections to access fieldwork, in turn helping to advance the careers of those who would otherwise be excluded.
